Greta Garbo to stage comeback

Fall is fast approaching and indulging in an evening of popcorn and movies is a great way to ward off the cold. Why not relive the magic of timeless classics like Anna Karenina or Ninotchka featuring the legendary Greta Garbo? Sweden Post and USPS are honoring the life and times of the actress with the joint issuance of a commemorative Greta Garbo postage stamp on September 23.
 
Born in 1905, Greta Garbo is one of the biggest movie stars Sweden has ever produced. Garbo's launched her motion picture career with a breakthrough role in 1924. At the age of 19 she was cast in the silent movie "The Atonement of Gösta Berling." She moved to America a year later, starring in a string of major Hollywood productions that included Anna Karenina, Mata Hari and Queen Christina. Garbo was one of the few actors able to make the transition from silent film to talkies in the 1930s. In fact, Garbo's seductive voice earned her legions of fans. Garbo died in 1990.
 
Sweden's Greta Garbo stamp issue features two designs. The first depicts a photograph from her 1932 role in "As You Desire Me." The second, Garbo's profile, was created by the Swedish artist Einar Nerman. The joint issuance features an engraved portrait of Greta Garbo. Piotr Naszarkowski engraved the portrait for the Sweden issue - his 100th overall. Naszarkowski also engraved the portrait for the United States issue. The engraving was his 99th overall and the first ever for the U.S. market.
 
The engraved Greta Garbo portrait stamp also makes up a souvenir pane of four identical stamps.

On September 23 Sweden Post will release two stamps in its series of Swedish World Heritage sites. World Heritage 7 features two designs: the Skogskyrkogården cemetery in Stockholm and the Grimeton radio station in Halland, which is Sweden's thirteenth World Heritage site.
 
Blissfully ignorant of the dangers attendant a life in the wild, they tumble, bounce and roll about in the forests and fields. Though one might be tempted to approach these at-first-blush cuddly creatures, an overly protective and lethal parent probably isn't too far behind. The Wild Cubs features young lynx, wolves, bears and foxes in their natural environments.
 
Just as the familiar humming of mopeds quiets in anticipation of colder seasons, Sweden Post is gearing up for its Great Mopeds stamp issue. Eight stamps offer a wide spectrum of two-wheeled nostalgia, from classic engines to a dedicated moped garage.
 
Souvenir pane: Great Mopeds
The 60's (60-tal) design from the Great Mopeds issue is being made available in a pane of nine identical stamps. The stamp is the exact same one featured in the Great Mopeds booklet.

Greta Garbo - Sweden-United States joint issuance
Stamps featuring a portrait of Greta Garbo will be issued in Sweden and the United States. Piotr Naszarkowski engraved the portrait, which will be issued simultaneously in both countries. Lars Sjööblom has engraved the Greta Garbo profile illustrated by Einar Nerman; the stamp is not part of the joint issuance and will only be issued in Sweden.
 
A portrait of Greta Garbo has graced a Swedish stamp once previously. The 1981 Swedish film history stamp issue features Greta Garbo as she appeared in "The Atonement of Gösta Berling."
